About Mountain Communities Vol Fire Prot Dist:
MCVFD is located 18 miles north of Woodland Park and consists of three stations in Douglas and Teller Counties. MCVFD has 30 active volunteers and protects 100 square miles of land and property. The approximate population of this area is 850 people. A large part of the land area is part of Pike National Forest. The majority of the department's rescue calls are in recreational areas and on Highway 67. Fire calls are usually wildland related and most occur during the spring and summer months. This district was the hardest hit during the Hayman Fire.
