About Westover Area Volunteer Fire Company:
Westover Area Volunteer Fire Company proudly protects 3000 people living in an area of 64 square miles. We operate out of one stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Westover Area Vol. Fire Co. was founded in 1980 thru the efforts of Richard Singleton and Dean Sommerville. The Westover Boro Council authorized the formation of the Company in June of 1980. We were chartered with the State of Pennsylvania in August of 1980. The first Fire Hall was located on Railroad Street in a garage donated by Dean Somerville. Our first Engine was a 1959 Ford John Bean pumper purchased from East Taylor Township Vol. Fire Co. for 10,000 dollars. The next year we purchased a 1951 Internationl Tanker from Pike Township. In 1984 we started construction of a new fire station at the present location. The building with two truck bays was built by the members. It also included a kitchen and meeting and radio room. In 1989 we started construction of a social and bingo hall. It also was built by the members. In 1997 we ordered a new Engine. The 1998 Four Guys Frightliner Pumper arrived in September of 1997. We also run a 1987 Ford E-350 Rescue and a 1969 Jeep 6X6 Brush Tanker. We are currently contracted for fire and other emergency service in Westover Boro, Burnside and Chest Townships in southwest Clearfield County.
