About West Memphis Fire Department:
West Memphis Fire Department proudly protects 29000 people living in an area of 30 square miles. We operate out of 4 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid status. The fire department was established in 1929 as a volunteer department at which time the city purchased a hose cart and some 2 1/2 hose. In 1955 the department built its first fire station and became a paid department. Today we have four fire stations and are a full paid department with 69 total members, which include 12 paramedic/firefighters, 3 Shift Captains, 12 Lieutenants, 15 Drivers, 18 firefighters, 5 staff personnel, a civilian secretary, and 4 dispatchers. All personnel are required to be IFSAC certified Firefighter II, state certified EMT's and ceritified at the Technican level in Haz Mat Response. We run fire, ems, rescue, haz mat and have a strong fire education program.
