About Tupelo Fire Department:
Tupelo Fire Department proudly protects 35000 people living in an area of 52 square miles. We operate out of 7 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid status. The Tupelo Fire Department was established in 1905. The Department serves the largest municipality in northeast Mississippi, covering 52 square miles, with a daytime population exceeding 100,000 and a resident population of 35,000. Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis, is also home to one Nation's largest rural medical center. Tupelo and the region boasts a variety of industries, including tire manufacturing, clothing, and furniture. The City plays host to the World's second largest Furniture Buyer's Market twice each year. Tupelo is located approximately 100 miles southeast of Memphis. The Tupelo Fire Department is an 89 member department, providing Fire Suppression, EMS (non-transport), Hazardous Materials, Confined Space Rescue, Dive Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Airport CFR Support, Fire Prevention, and Training Services. The Emergency Services Division is staffed by 81 personnel, led by an Assistant Chief. The department answers over 2700 calls per year. The Fire Prevention Division is in the third year of a smoke detector program that provides smoke detectors and replacment batteries to single family homes, elderly citizens, and low to moderate income families with over 900 installed.
