We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is 100% volunteer status. The Department was organized in 1895. We protect the City of Smithville, Southeastern Bastrop County and portions of Western Fayette County. Our average in city response time is 4.86 minutes, out of city under 9 minutes. We have 50 active volunteer members including 9 career firefighters from major area departments that give of their time . It is not uncommon for an applicant to be on a waiting list for over a year.
