About Scranton Fire Department:
Scranton Fire Department proudly protects 680 people living in an area of 2 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Scranton Fire Department is a state of the art fire suppression service and a highly trained BLS First Responder program. Our First Responder program was originally formed in 1990. Training was provided by Steve Miller MICT,RN and paid for by the city of Scranton. Originally 5 persons were trained as first responders 2 of which are current member of the fire department. Since 1990 we have grown in numbers as well as skill levels. Currently we have 3 EMTI'S {EMT'S that can start IV'S} and 3 EMT'S. We are currently training 2 additional EMT'S. Our fire department is a city department covering the Scranton metropolitan area as well providing mutual aide for Osage County Rural Fire District Number 1. Our firefighters are trained in various areas of firefighting including but not limited to working with Class A foam, farm extrication, and rail car extrication. During the past 2 years our fire department has began to focus on public education. Lois Berry EMT is our public education officer. Our programs include using a PAL box and 911 training both for children and adults. As with any public education program we are interested in any donations of teaching supplies which will help to better educate the public at large.
