We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. Organized in 1989, incorporated in 1990 with Chief Randy Thompson, Emeritus serving our department. First pumper was an USAF crash truck that was housed in a horse barn. Next year, Chief Gene Flournoy lead us as we purchased a used 1965 Mack pumper, obtained an AFC Dodge 4X4 brush truck, and AFC GMC 5,000 gallon tanker. Late in 1993, we purchased a 1993 E-1, Freighliner 5 passenger commercial chasis, 1,000 gallon pumper and an E-1, F250, 250 gallon mini-pumper early in 1994. In August of '94, the department moved from the real horse barn to our present station that is modeled after a 'Kentucky Horse Barn. Our permanent station is a 7,200 SF structure, with 6 doors-6,000 SF bay, 600 SF training wing with: a full kitchen that is also used as community center; and 600 SF Operations wing with offices, lounge, and sleeping quarters. After 1997, we were lead by Chief Rusty Cantrell when we purchased a reconditioned E-1, 1982 Imperial, 750 gallon pumper. We are now lead by Chief John Treat. In 1998,we were able to have the AFC brush truck with a new Ford F-250 Super Duty pick-up with a AFC bid list slide-in pump/tank unit. The AFC Dodge brush truck and GMC tanker were transferred in 1999 to Catoma FPA. RHLVFD is located ajacent to the Montgomery National Golf Course, just off U. S. 231 South of the city of Montgomery, AL. The Montgomery County Association of VFDs (MCAVFD) meets here the first Monday each month, and District 10 Firefighters Association (FFA) meets here soon after the Alabama Forestry Commission's RCFP Steering Committee meeting on a Wednesday, on a announced published date. Our facility is used as an consolidated training centre for much of the Montgomery County Association of VFDs academic and skills training. We also house the MCAVFD Breathing air Compressor, and garage the MCAVFDs cascade service vehicle. We also serve the City of Pike Road, Alabama as their primary fire, rescue, and EMS provider.
