About Richeyville Volunteer Fire Company:
Richeyville Volunteer Fire Company proudly protects 17500 people living in an area of 47 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. We were organized on April 25, 1949. Our charter members are Felix Tarorick, Clifford George, John Lemonovich, William Mull, Louis Fleck, Russell Cadman. We have 25 active firefighters, 10 inactive firefighters, and eight social members. We are located on Route 40 between Washington and Uniontown. We cover approximately 47 square miles consisting of Centerville and Beallsville Boroughs, North Beth and West Pike Run Townships. Our first station was a single truck bay garage composed of tin siding donated by J&L Mines, housing a 1949 Federal pumper. We reloated into our existing three bay station 10 years later. An American Lafrance open-cab pumper was purchased soon after to fill the new station. Since then, two truck bays were added. In 1969, a Cadillac ambulance was purchased to provide medical care and transportation for our community. In 1976, the first two personnel completed the Emergency Medical Technician course thus improving our patient care. Two years later, a modular ambulance was purchased with the financial assistance of businessman, Mr. Mike Rankin, to handle the increasing vehicular accidents and aging population. The company's ambulance service ended with arrival of long overdue advanced life support offered by the Ambulance and Chair Corporation. In 1972, a social hall was built for public and private functions. For many years, the Thursday night auction drew crowds looking for and selling everything from antiques to zucchini. Our successful Sunday night bingo continues to evolve for our friends and patrons, while providing much needed funds for the station. In 1977, the property adjacent from the station, formerly the Richeyville Elementary School, was purchased from the Bethlehem-Center School District where our annual canival fills the large lot. Firefighters transported donated food and clothing while helping with the cleanup of the devastating Johnstown flood. Today, we run three engines, a tanker, a squad, and brush truck to serve and protect our community.
