About Poplarville Fire and Rescue:
City of Poplarville Fire and Rescue proudly protects 7000* people living in an area of 10 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. Established in 1937 to provide fire protection to the the town of Poplarville and the rural areas of north Pearl River County, Mississippi. Today we provide primary emergency response to the City of Poplarville with limited specialized assistance provided to the surrounding areas to include portions of Interstate 59. Also within our coverage area is Pearl River Community College, the first Junior College in the State of Mississippi enrolling approximatly 3000 students annually. Beginning in July 1997, the department started the transition from all volunteer to a combination department with the hiring of the City's first full time Fire Chief. The additional personnel needed to maintain response and to lower the insurance classification rating began in January 1999 with the addition of two more full time and one part time firefighters. Since that time the full time force has grown to a total of three with 9 part time and 13 volunteers. We are a progressive department that always strives to better serve our community.
