About Pinetops Rescue Squad:
We operate out of one stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. 1st Offical meeting, May 25, 1972 at the Pinetops Rescue Squad was held in the Old Town Hall with 13 Members present. Initial Training included 24 hours of Standard 1st Aid and 12 hours of Advanced 1st Aid. First ambulance was a 1956 Cadillac ($400.00. In July 1972 recieved Civil Defense truck. Sept. 13, 1972 Officially Operational & 1st call Steve Burress, Fred DeMuth and Dwight Jefferson. In 1972 we were granted permission to use the county fire frequency up until 10:00 PM Communications with hospital unheard of. In 1973 Got 1st new ambulance, VIA the Governor's Highway Safty Program with matching funds. ($19,000). Call Volume 1972 1 call approx. every 50 hours. 1973 Employed 1 Full time $50.00 a week. In 1977 earned EMT Cert. Apptox. 120 hours of training and pass state exam. In 1981 Thanks to the Town of Pinetops moved into New Fire/Rescue Complex. In 1982 Responeded Mutual Aid to Pitt County reference to Tornado Disaster. In 1986 Earned EMT-I Approx. 225 hours of training and pass state exam. And Advanced Life Support of care certi. granted to the squad. 1990 Responed to Mutual Aid call for Train derailment in Rocky Mount. 1997 Call volume 1 call every 9 hours. 1997 employ 2 full time and 3 part time. To date we have 3 ambulances and 1 Civil Defense Truck. Employ 3 full time and 3 part time personal
