About Oregon Fire Department:
Oregon Fire Department proudly protects 20000 people living in an area of 28.5 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.

Our Department covers a varitey of areas. We have Heavy Industrial, including two major refineries, smaller industrial companies, the usual mercantile establishments, farm community, and an ever growing residential community. The department has a membership combination of full time paid and paid on call. All members are trained to the basic Ohio firefighting level, with approximately 35%-40% to the level B. All members are trained to the State of Ohio EMT-Basic level with approximately 10% trained to the paramedic level. We have a State of the Art training center that was developed jointly with Sun Refining, B/P Oil Company and Toledo Edison, which includes Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant. The training facility has a combination burn and rescue facility that includes 3 burn rooms and a 2 story simulated residential section. This building also has a 2 1/2 sotry tower with standpipe system, attics and roof ventilation simulators. We utilize this building for SCBA training and have the ability to move the walls for simulations, with the recent addition of the Cairns Iris helmet thermal imaging equipment to department this facility is used extensively for training the department. This facility has one of the countries most sophisticated confined space simulators, that includes a 55' tower and a sewer simulator which includes 150' of 24 piping and manholes. The facility has training mock ups for hazmat, rope rescue, vehicle extrications and many other smaller types for special training. At the industrial site are live burn simulators in rail and truck mock ups, pit fires, flange and pump fires as well as electrical transformer fires. The main building also includes a wet & dry sprinkler system and actual working alarm systems, some of which are utilized by nursing homes, hospital and industrial plants in the City. The Oregon Fire department is well respected around the State of Ohio, Chief Walendzak sits on the State of Ohio EMS board, our Assitant Chief Bill Flanagan sits on the state building code committee, and we also have 9 State certified Fire instructors, and two State of Ohio EMS instructors.
