About Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad, Inc.:
Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad, Inc. proudly protects 27100 people living in an area of 3.4 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. In 1953, eleven townspeople came together to set up an organization that would provide a needed service to the town of Nutley. This organization became known as the Nutley First Aid Squad. These dedicated people responded to calls in a 1947 Buick ambulance from a bay set up in the basement of the Puublic Safety building. In 1964 we changed our name to it's present form to reflect the change in services that we provide. These services include emergency medical, as well as heavy rescue & extrication. The Squad also has a dive/scuba team, a confined space rescue team, and a newly instituted bike team. We also provide medical support to the Nutley Fire Department during any fire emergencies or hazardous materials incidents. Our equipment has changed drastically from the 1947 Buick to our current 5 vehicles. The 3 modular rigs are custom designed and equipped with state of the art EMS equipment. Unit 46, our van ambulance, serves as a backup to the 3 modulars and for long distance transports. The rescue truck speaks for itself as demonstrated by the multitude of trophies it has won and by it's reputation as a first class, well equipped vehicle. The boat, Unit 45, provides assistance during floods and water search and recovery operations.
