We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. We are a small community in Southwest Missouri, with two major highways and two major railroad through the city. The Neosho Fire Department was started in 1888. At the present time all paid personnel are members of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 2001, and all members belong to the Neosho Volunteer Firefighter Inc. That's right, Paid Professional Firefighter in a Volunteer Organization. We all started as volunteers and we all take pride in it. If it were not for Volunteers starting the fire service, none of us would be here today. The department is involved in numerous activities and organizations within our own community and state. Fort Crowder, which was a training area in the 1940s, is now part of the city and is called the Crowder Complex, this area and a newly annexed area north are both Enterprise Zone for industrial use. This is largly the Industrial Area of the City. We have La-Z-Boy Midwest (the best chair in the country), Prax-Air (liquified oxygen and nitrogen), Daisy Manufacturing (Daisy BB), Brass Eagle, Ozark Terminal (Sprinkler protected Underground Storage), along with other large and smaller supporting industries throughout the community. The Crowder Area is also home for Crowder Jr. College, the community college district of Newton and McDonald counties. The Neosho Area Fire Protection District, a tax supported district, contracts with the City of Neosho to provide fire protection for the area around Neosho. The District provide the equipment and the City provides the manpower, housing for their equipment, and the maintenance of the equipment and the City also is able to use the Districts equipment in return.
