About Mt. Pleasant Fire Department:
We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department is currently comprised of 26 volunteer firefighter personnel, 5 of which are officers, and 3 additional reserve members. In a normal year the Department responds to approximately 150 calls for service. The Departments responsibilities include; response to hazmat incidents, fuel spills, rescue, vehicle extrication, grass fires, structure fires, and numerous other calls for assistance. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department is actually two departments staffed by the same members and based from the same station. Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, founded in 1869, covers the town of Mt. Pleasant, while the Mt. Pleasant Benefited Rural Fire Department, founded in 1969, covers six townships in the surrounding area. Previous to 1969 the surrounding rural area was covered by the Mutual Insurance Association Fire Department, which was then bought by the county.
