About Montrose Fire Protection District:
Montrose Fire Protection District proudly protects 20000 people living in an area of 186 square miles. We operate out of One stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. Montrose Fire Department was established in 1888. In May 1946 the Montrose Rural Fire District was formed. In January of 1978 the city fire department merged with the Rural District to form the present Montrose Fire Protection District. MFPD is an independent taxing special district governed by an elected five member board of directors. Training of all career firefighters in all aspects of firefighting as well as other specialized subjects is done on a daily basis. Both career and volunteer firefighters are trained regularly twice a month. The district currently has 31 Colorado State Certified Firefighters,6 State cert. Training Instructors, 8 First Responders, 14 Cert. CPR Instructors, and 20 Cert. EMTs. Plus a fully equipped Ice Rescue Team.
