About Lumberton Volunteer Fire-Rescue Services:
Lumberton Volunteer Fire/Rescue Services proudly protects 25000 people living in an area of 120.5 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

We were originally created in 1962 by the citizen's of a very small rural community and chartered as the Chance-Loeb Volunteer Fire Department. However, rapid residential development and fast population growth led to the name being changed to the Lumberton Volunteer Fire Department in 1968. We are located at the intersection of US Highways 69, 96 & 287, just 12 miles North of Beaumont, Texas. Our relatively close location to the Golden Triangle, (Beaumont, Orange, Port Arthur) one of the nation's largest concentrations of major petroleum and chemical manufacturers, makes the Lumberton area an ideal place to live. It has also added to the reputation as one of the fastest growing communities in Southeast Texas. In August of 1977, the community was very instrumental in supporting the Department with the financial assistance by way of an election to create the first of many Rural Fire Prevention Districts in Hardin County. Over the last 21 years that small tax levy has been a major contribution to the success of the services provided the volunteers of the Lumberton Fire Department and the Lumberton Emergency Medical Services. On August 8th, 1998 after year of hard work, an election was held to assure our continued success well into the future. This election created an Emergency Services District, providing for a slightly increased tax to meet our financial needs. Our growing department is 101% volunteer. We currently have approximately 50 members, with a wide variety of firefighting experience and skills ranging from those of area career firefighters, safety training instructors, plant fire brigade members, and area health care workers, to that of plant operators, parts and counter sales personel, water and gas utility workers, local state and county detention officers and business owners and employees in the community. Through continued and ongoing efforts with other local fire departments, we can count on rapid mutual aid response from the neighboring areas of Silsbee, Kountze and Sour Lake, just to name a few. We are very much like any volunteer department, constantly striving to maintain and increase our valuable membership of concerned citizens who spend countless hours learning and training to be THE BEST. We are always looking for new members. Please feel free to call the non-emergency number listed, or drop by our Central Fire Station on Hwy. 96 any Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
