About Black Mudd Fire Protection District:
Black Mudd Fire Protection District proudly protects 10000 people living in an area of 6 square miles. We operate out of one stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Black Mud Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1953. We became the Black Mudd Fire Protection District in 1958. We are a taxing district that charges 10 cents per hundred dollars of evaluation ($100,000 property/$100 per year fire tax). In 1981, the district became the first fire department in Kentucky and the Southeastern United States to receive a Class 3 fire rating. The district has been Class 2 since 1984. General Electric Appliance Park is the biggest industry that it provides service to. Our budget is $500,000. There were 664 fire and ems responses in 1997.
