Latham Fire Department is a primarily volunteer department proudly serving a primarily residential area of about 12 square miles. We cover both Fire services as well as assisting Colonie EMS on higher priority calls with EMS first response. On average, LFD receives over 600 Fire and 500 EMS calls annually.
Established in 1910, Latham Fire Department was the first fire company in the Town of Colonie. The Town of Colonie is covered by 12 fire departments operating out of 17 stations and it covers 60 square miles. Town population ranges from 85,000(nights) and 300,000(days). LFD operates out of two stations. Our department just purchased and put into service a new KME heavy rescue. This will replace our old 1976 Mack heavy rescue. The new rescue will combine many tools of the old rescue, the confined space equipment (formally housed in a utility trailer) as well as many new tools and equipment. Our department also offers an explorer post for the youth.
