About Reserve Hose Company # 1:
Reserve Hose Co. # 1 proudly protects 15000 people living in an area of 11 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. Reserve Hose Company # 1 consists of 82 Professional Volunteer Firefighters, manning 2 stations. Reserve Hose was the last fire company to be formed in the Town of West Seneca. In the early 1900s the southwest section of West Seneca was known as Reserve, and had only a few scattered farms, homes, and roads. The only fire protection to be had was the nearby neighbors with buckets and help (when it arrived) from the already organized fire companies of Seneca Hose and Vigilant. In 1926, with the growing population of the southwest section of town, a group of citizens recognized the need for another fire company. In a meeting held in Deacons Hall on Orchard Park Road near Church Road (which was later renamed Reserve Road), plans were laid out for the fire company. William Ulrich, Sr. donated land on Berg Road to build a station, and a membership of about 35 men was formed. On August 5, 1927, a certificate of incorporation was granted by the Town of West Seneca. The first fire truck used by the Company was a 1930 Buffalo. Purchased new, it cost $7500, quite an amount of money considering it was the Depression. Presently, Reserve answers about 725 alarms per year with 2 Engine Companies, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Ladder Company, and 2 Intermediate Life Support Units. The Engines, E-1 and E-2 are identical Class A FMC Pumpers on Spartan Gladiator chassis. The Heavy Rescue, R-5 is a 1985 Saulsbury on a Ford chassis. Ladder 6 is actually a 1975 55' Snorkel on an American LaFrance chassis, which was refurbished in the early 1990s. The 2 Intermediate Life Support (ILS) Units, 7 and 7-1, are both on Ford chassis - a 1991 Horton, and a 1995 Marque. The Company proudly serves West Seneca Fire District # 3, which was established in 1933.
