Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Sabine Volunteer Fire Department was originally founded in 1985 to provide a tanker truck to Kilgore Fire Department when they were responding to the rural area just north of the city of Kilgore Tx. Shortly after that the Texas Forestry Service donated a grass rig to the Sabine Fire Department and we grew from that. When founded the budget was so bad many times the firefighters had to pay out of pocket to fill the trucks up with fuel. Although we have grown from this we still survive primarily off of donations most of our gear has been donated to us by the Kilgore Fire Department.
