About Shady Valley Fire Protection District:
Shady Valley Fire Protection District proudly protects 10000 - 12000 people living in an area of 18 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Department was organized in 1959 after a fire claimed the areas dance hall. Tag sales and fundraisers kept the department going and in 1974, voters approved a tax-supported Fire Protection District. Our Eight full-time paid (1 Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 3 Shift Captains, 3 shift privates), one part-time paid (Secretary), 21 volunteers and 4 cadets, handle approximately 700 calls per year, With an average of 3 volunteer personnel overnight. We train vigorously using the Training in Context approach and have personnel that are highly trained in almost all aspects of the fire service. We are involved with the Jefferson County Haz-Mat Team, Technical Rescue Team, & the Search & Rescue Team. Chief Thomas L. Fitzgerald and Assistant Chief James J. Wisnewski Jr. along with the three shift officers teach an excellent Incident Command training exercise that we have taken on the road to assist in the training of other departments. If you are interested, please feel free to contact them at 636-296-3957, fax 636-282-4137 or e-mail jjw7301c@hotmail.com. We also have employee and membership handbooks as well as SOG's and training lesson plans available to assist anyone who may be working on such projects. Also, we have a program in place that may work for others which allows us to routinely have as many as five to seven people at the station to handle alarms during the night. If interested, we'll be glad to fill you in. For just about two years now we have revived a Cadet (junior) Fire Fighter program that has been dormant for several years. The program is designed for youth ages 12 through 17 and will be an integral part of our organization. For the lay people in our area, we have medical and CPR training, fire extinguisher classes and a host of other items that will help you be safe and better prepared for an emergency. Please call or stop by. BE SAFE.
