About High Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS:
High Island VFD & EMS proudly protects 500 people living in an area of 9 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The High Island Fire Department began out of necessity due to the oil boom in our community in the early 1900's. Over the past ten years, the area has suffered a decline in local business especially in the oilfield. Our town is located 33 miles east of Galveston, 18 miles south of Winnie and 35 miles west of Port Arthur on the Gulf Coast of Texas.
