About Harrisville Fire and Rescue Department:
Harrisville Fire and Rescue Department proudly protects 1000 people living in an area of 20.23 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid on call status. The earliest recorded account of any organized fire-fighting organization in Harrisville dates back to 1839, when the Harrisville Engine Company was organized and chartered by the State. The current department was organized as a volunteer department in 1935 with John Clark serving as the first Chief. The first apparatus of sorts was a portable forest fire pump, skid mounted, which was intended to be transported in a pick-up truck! Individuals having served as Chief since the department's inception were John Clark, James Pender, Leon St. Peter, Ralph Clark, Justin Chamberlain, Francis Parker, Alton Chamberlain, John W. St. Peter, Rand E. Duffy, and the incumbant, Russell Driscoll, Jr. Harrisville Fire & Rescue Department serves the town of Harrisville, New Hampshire and the surrounding towns and villages. The Department is comprised of 25 Firefighters utilizing 1 Fire Engine, 1 Tanker, 1 Rescue Truck, 1 Brush Truck, 1 Hose Tender, 1 Rescue Boat, 1 Ice Rescue Boat, and 1 Squad. We cover an area in excess of 20 square miles with a year-round population of approximately 1,000 people. However, during the summer, the population doubles as summer residents invade the 11 lakes and ponds within the town. The department operates out of a modern 6-Bay Station which was dedicated on January 11, 1987. The facility includes a squad room, kitchenette, Radio Room, a Chief's office, and storage.
