About Grimes Fire and Rescue Department:
The Grimes Fire and Rescue Department proudly protects about 8000 people living in an area of approximately 40 square miles. We operate out of one station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a combination fire department with three full-time staff and 25 paid-on-call staff. We employ one fulltime fire chief who is shared with the City of Johnston, our neighbors to the east. We also employee one firefighter/paramedic and one firefighter/EMT. Grimes is a northwestern suburb of the Des Moines metro area (Des Moines is the state capital of Iowa). Our service area includes west-central Polk County, including the town of Grimes, along with a small area in east-central Dallas County. We operate a conditional level EMT-P emergency medical service with one rescue unit. Our EMS staff includes 2 Paramedics, 1 EMT-I and 12 EMT-B's. Our firefighters consist of 25 members. All of the firefighters are nationally certified Firefighter I's. We also have multiple members that are Firefighter II certified. In addition, two members are certified Fire Officer I, two members are certified Fire Officer II and four members are certified Instructors.
