About Tusayan Fire Department:
Tusayan Fire Department proudly protects 500-1000 residents. Our first due area is 5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily commercial area, that includes seven 3 story hotels, with over 930 rooms, various restaurants,retail stores. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.Tusayan is the gateway Community to the Grand Canyon National Park,with 5 million visitors each year. The Tusayan Fire District was originally created in August of 1996 to provide Fire and EMS services for the community of Tusayan. Included in our first response area is the Grand Canyon Airport the third busiest airport in Arizona in the summer. We also provide coverage from the Grand Canyon National Park Entrance gate south on Hwy 64 to mile post 219. The Tusayan Fire Districts personnel are now in the process of assisting the Kaibab National Forest with urban interface area surrounding Tusayan. This includes mechanical thinning and RX burns around thwe community. We have a consistent volunteer base of approximately 17 personnel,with a weekly training scheduled every Thursday night. We have a very proactive Fire Board who strive to keep our Department supplied with all necessary equipment to maintain NFPA compliance.
