About Gaines Township Fire Department:
Gaines Township Fire Department proudly protects 7200 people living in an area of 36 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid on call status. After months of prepararation and Training Gaines Township Fire Department was ready to respond to emergency calls on April 1, 1980. The Department started with a Station that is centrally located in the township and housed 2 pumpers 1 tanker and a 4X4 grass truck. 35 Fire Fighters operated the equipment under the leadership of Fire Chief William Miller and covered 36 sq. miles. Today the station has been added on to make room for meetings, training, radio operation and office space. The station now houses 1 min-pump, 1 pumper/tanker, 1 tanker and a squad van. The department also has been contracted to provide fire service to the Village of Gaines and houses 1 pumper, 1 tanker, a 4X4 Grass/ medical truck and a grass fire & water resuce trailer. Both stations are dispatched to all alarms and the department now employs 30 fire fighters and 3 radio operators under the on going leadership of Chief Miller. Also, beginning April 1st, of 1999, the Gaines Township Fire Department began running all Tier 1 medical emergencies within the Township.
