About Ft. Huachuca Fire Department:
Ft. Huachuca Fire Dept. proudly protects 22900 people living in an area of 114 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid status. Historic Ft. Huachuca is located approximately 75 miles southeast of Tucson. We are a federal fire deptartment staffed by DOD civilian employees. We are one of the first army fire departments to integrate an ambulance service into the organization. Our department provides all emergency medical care to include transportation of the sick and injured. Traditionally, emergency medical care was operated out of the post hospital or by contract with a private agency with fire personnel performing first responder duties. All firefighters are National Registry EMTs under the new '94 curriculum. In addition, we assumed all 911 emergency dispatching for both police and fire which is performed by the firefighters in shifts during their regular duty day. A mutual aid system is in place with the city of Sierra Vista Fire Department located right outside the front gate. Station 2 is located near the main gate with the first out responsibility of responding to mutual assistance calls. It is not uncommon for us to be on alert or to move up to fill stations in the adjacent city. Our newly designed dispatch center includes a SVFD radio that we monitor enabling us to coordinate the appropriate response.
