About Washington Parish Fire Protection District # 8:
Washington Parish Fire Protection District #8 proudly protects over 4500 people living in an area of 43.7 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

GOD BLESS OUR FALLEN BROTHER AND SISTER FIREFIGHTERS AND RESCUE PERSONNEL IN NEW YORK CITY. THEIR BRAVERY AND COURAGE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!! THEY ARE AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL! FDNY, PAPD, NYEMS, DCFD, AND PENTAGON PERSONNEL, ALONG WITH OUR ARMED FORCES: THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE AND FOR ALL YOU DO!! _______________________________________ First organized in 1982 as the Enon/6th Ward VFD, Washington Parish Fire District #8 was born as a result of the re-organization of parish fire departments into Fire Districts. We are 20+ members strong, and are an ALL volunteer department. We serve the Enon, Zona, and Spring Hill areas in Washington Parish, Louisiana. We operate out of 3 Stations with 10 pieces of apparatus, including 2 Pumpers, 2 Tankers, 2 Combination Tanker/Pumpers, 2 Rescue Units, a Brush Unit, and the FIRST Aerial truck in Washington Parish. Our Pumpers each have 1000 gal. tanks and 1250 gpm pumps. Our Pumper/Tanker has a 3500 gal. tank, and a 1250 gpm pump! He's the biggest water hauler we have. Our Aerial truck has a 100' ladder w/monitor attatched and a 1250 gpm pump. Our Tanker #1 has a 2000 gal. tank w/350gpm pto pump, and Tanker #2 has a 1500 gal.tank w/250 gpm pump. Each tanker has a 10" rear dump valve, and fold-a- tank rack w/a 2100 gal. folding dump tank. We have an ISO rating of 6, thanks to the Aerial Truck and the purchase of more equipment since our last rating. We are hopeful that we can lower it even further in the future. This will offer the residents of District #8 better fire protection as well as lower insurance premiums. Our latest addition to our fleet is Engine #82, a 2007 GMC 3000 gallon Pumper/Tanker built by Ferrara Fire Apparatus. This new unit is in addition to Engine #81, which was secured by Capt. Mike Sharp after he wrote a second successful FIRE Act Grant. The unit has been in service and serving the citizens of District #8 as well as the surrounding areas since the first week of October, 2007. We are excited to have the very first brand new trucks we have ever owned as a department, and we plan on using them to continue to provide better fire protection to our customers. We pledge to continue to strive to improve this department, and to always be ready to respond to any emergency situation in our district, our parish, and the surrounding areas. We could not be successful without the efforts of our volunteers, who put their lives on the line and respond to any call without hesitation. We appreciate their dedication. 7 years ago,Captain Mike Sharp began teaching Fire Safety and Prevention to the students of Enon Elementary School, and conducting their fire drills for them. The students learn how to prevent fires, stop, drop, and roll!, and the importance of smoke detectors in the home. It is our hope that better fire related programs in the school will lead to less fire related tragedies. If you need to contact this department, you can e-mail us at msharp@huntnet.net, or you can call Mike Sharp @ 985-839-4259,Tim Magee @ 985-839-9753, or Chief James Jones @ 985-839-9672. For emergencies, DIAL 911!! We are dedicated to saving life and property, and will continue to do our best for the residents of W.P.F.D. #8, 24 HOURS/DAY-7 DAYS/WEEK!!
