About Fountain Lake Fire Department:
Fountain Lake Fire Department proudly protects 6000 people living in an area of 110 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Fountain Lake Fire Department was established in 1976 after a few individuals realized that fire protection was needed in Northeastern Garland County. Art Tuma, who lead the fire department into action made a donation of two acres of land to build our new fire station; This sight was the intersection of Hwy 5 and Lonsdale Cutoff (Later to be called Hwy 128) The residents of our community quickly saw the results of this much needed service and because of that community support and increasing call volume in the northern part of our district Station 2 was added in 1978. Our district continued to see growth in the northern parts so an addition was added to station 2 to make room for equipment required to protect our residents more sufficently. Most of our growth was a direct result of the expansion in nearby Hot Springs Village; many new home owners and business saw the Fountain Lake area as a great place to call home and the FLFD was there to insure that decision. Again the fire department saw the need for expansion in the nearby community of Crows. The intersection of Hwy 5 & Hwy 9 was decided upon as the newest sight of our station; this also marked us crossing the boundries into southwestern Saline County. Station 3 was built and dedicated two years later. It was realized that the day would come when this station would be handed over to the residents of Crows. In 1996 after years of dedicated services station 3 and all assigned equipment was donated to the newly formed Crows Station Fire Department. Today the Fountain Lake Fire Department has some of the best trained firefighters in Garland County; many of our firfighters have advanced training as Storm Spotters, First Responders which include Nurses, Paramedics and EMTs. ____________________________________________________________ The Fountain Lake Fire Department is dispatched by Garland County Control 3, which is the hub for dispatch operations for all 9 volunteer fire departments in the county. Our dispatch center is staffed by two highly qualified Emergency Dispatchers, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They are in direct contact with Hot Springs Police and Fire Departments, Hot Springs Village Department of Public Service, Arkansas State Police and Garland County Sheriffs office. Control 3 also serves as the dispatch center for the EMS providers in Garland, Montgomery and Pike counties and Hot Springs Village. This provides for better response by the fire department when medical calls require a fire department response. Control 3 has all state-of-the-art equipment to serve the 911 needs; with Enhanced 911, MapInfo address locator and multi-function Radio dispatch consoles. All dispathers are also qualified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers.
