About Forest Falls Fire Protection District:
Forest Falls Fire Protection District, proudly protects 1250 people living in an area of 26 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid on call status. Surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest, Forest Falls Station 128, a part of the San Bernardino County Fire Department, provides an all risk service to the communities of Forest Falls and Mountain Home Village plus approx. 275,000 visitors a year. Only 1.5 hours east of Los Angeles at 6000'of elevation, and nicknamed by some "Little Yosemite", Forest Falls, aka Valley of the Falls, has several waterfalls, including Southern Californias tallest year 'round waterfall, snowy winters, cool summers and hiking/horseback access into the San Gorgonio Wilderness from 2 trailheads within the community. With only one road in-out of the canyon, mutual aid being 15-20 minutes out and a propensity for earthquake activity, technical rescues, flash floods and severe winter storms, the fire district maintains a large personnel roster and fleet of apparatus. The district has a fire association, sponsers a Fire-Rescue Explorer Post and administers the community disaster response program which includes offering CPR and a 17 hour disaster response class that intergrates our residents into the Fire District and community disaster needs. The district has 23 personnel; 1 admin. capt. with local responsibility, 1 line captains, 1 captain/safety officer,8 driver/operators and 12 firefighters. Typical training/certifications include; EMT-1, State Cert.Volunteer or FF1, Rescue Systems 1 (heavy rescue), HAZMAT Operations, Wildland FF II (Red Card) and Urban/Wildland Interface. On May 1 of 1999 we commenced our EMT-1D program, offering life saving defibrillation to victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The photo below shows our station before and after its mellinium restoration project in 2000 which was funded by donations of material and labor.
