Folly Beach Department of Public Safety proudly protects 9000 people living in an area of 7 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. Located approximately 7 miles south of the City of Charleston, the City of Folly Beach is considered to be a Barrier Island. While the primary mission of the department is Law Enforcement, the officers are dual trained in Fire Suppression as well. The department responds to all types of emergencies annually. From any type of fire imaginable to automoblie accidents to children lost on the beach and to drownings. The Public Safety system works on Folly Beach due to the strong leadership from the Chief and both Captains. They make sure that every member understands his or her role with the department and things are done when they need to be both efficiently and professionally.
