About Timberline-Fernwood Fire Department:
Timberline-Fernwood Fire Department proudly protects 2500 people living in an area of 28 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Timberline-Fernwood Fire Department is located along Highway 89 N. approximately 6 miles northeast of Flagstaff, Arizona. We were established in 1978 as a volunteer department. The District is approximately 28 square miles. It is primarily a residential community which borders forest service land and has a serious interface hazard. Eight miles of Hwy 89 are withing our district. Hwy 89 is a heavily traveled two lane route to the Grand Canyon, Page and Lake Powell, and the Navajo and Hopi Reservations. We respond to many serious head on accidents on this highway. We have mutual aid agreements with the City of Flagstaff, our neighboring fire districts, and the USFS. We have additional air support provided by Department of Public Safety with a helicopter and a Bambi Bucket. There are very few hydrants in the district so the majority of the fires involve tender operations. The department is volunteer supported by two full time personnel and a part time Adminstrative Assistant.
