The Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection Association formed in 1953 by a group of citizens concerned about safety after a fatal fire. By 1954 the group had raised sufficient moneys to start and complete a building, a portion still in use today In 1973 the citizens were presented with a referendum to create a tax-supported district. A majority vote led to the formation of the Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District.
