We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Elkhart Fire Department and First Responders have a dedicated volunteer membership of 16 and are proud to say we have 99.9 % support of the community we serve. Our FIRST RESPONDERS DO NOT TRANSPORT. Ankeny Fire Department is our main transporter. We hold an annual Hog & Lamb Roast the 3rd Saturday in July. We usually double the population of Elkhart for our Roast. ***All our members are 100 % Volunteers!!
