About Vol Co. #1 East Haven Fire Department:
Vol Co. #1 East Haven Fire Department proudly protects 26000 people living in an area of 13 square miles. We operate out of 4 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. Volunteer Co#1 was formed on January 2nd 1990 with 50 charter members. Isaac Hagaman was the first Chief. In July 1901 badges were designed for the Company using the name East Haven Fire Department.In the interim period seven volunteer Companys were formed, three have been disbanded. Today the East Haven Fire Department is comprised of 50 Paid Members and 4 Volunteer Companys with +_ 100 Active Volunteers.Three stations are covered by the Paid Members plus Volunteers with one Station covered by Volunteers only. In the 100 year history of the East Haven Fire Department There have been no fire related deaths in a residence equiped with a working smoke detector. To date all of the Department Chiefs started their career as Volunteers. Through the efforts of Chief Sandford the Department's ISO rating has recently been upgraded from Grade 4 to Grade 3.
