About DENVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT:
DENVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT proudly protects 14300 people living in an area of 13 square miles. We operate out of three stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Denville Fire Department was formed on June 6, 1926 by a small group of men from the Denville Athletic Club. The first official meeting of the Dept. took place on July 20, 1926 with 22 members present. The Denville Township Committee approved an ordinance on August 4, 1926 that gave the Fire Dept. official status. Since the Township Committee did not provide any funding for the Fire Dept., the Denville Fire Dept. Association was formed in August 1926 to raise the necessary funds to run the Fire Dept. Under the direction of Chief Benjamin Kinsey the Dept. purchased a new American La France, type 12, combination, 1000 GPM pumper for $13,350. In order to do this, some of the members pledged their homes to cover the notes for the pumper.
