About Deferiet Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.:
Deferiet Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. proudly protects 1500 people living in an area of 10 square miles. We operate out of 1(one) stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. In 1948 the Deferiet Volunteer Fire Company was organized. Gilbert Delosh, Sr. was elected the first Fire Chief, a position that he held for 5 years. With an active membership of approximately 52 men, the department had a radio equipped truck, ambulance, rescue boat, resuscitator and portable flood lights. In 1953 the organization was revamped with two seperate governing bodies, a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer to conduct the business; and a Chief, with Assistants to take charge of fire fighting and equipment. In 1954 the department was incorporated under laws of New York State at which time the name was changed to Deferiet Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. The regular meetings are held the first Thursday of each month with the annual meeting held the first Thursday in the month of April.
