About Cuba Community Fire Department:
Cuba Community Fire Department proudly protects 5000 people living in an area of 150 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Regional West Fire Protection District has been serving the people of Cole and Moniteau Counties since 1955, when it was first organized as the Centertown Rural Fire Association. During that time many changes have taken place, the most significant being in 1993, when voters approved the formation of a tax supported fire district. Prior to 1993, Department funding came from membership dues paid through a tag system. With the creation of a tax supported district, and the increased revenue that resulted, the Department has been able to purchase new equipment, increase training and public education programs, and implement a three-year plan. The ultimate goal of this plan is a single, reduced ISO Rating for the entire District. To accomplish this, the Board of Directors, at the Chief's request, have approved the replacement of Station 1 in Centertown, the construction of two new stations on Highway 179, the purchase of additional apparatus, and creation of a water shuttle operation plan. The Department is also taking steps to improve our capabilities with regard to the increasing number of medical and rescue calls that we are receiving. In 1998 an agreement was reached with Capital Region Medical Center which provides for a fully staffed ALS Ambulance to respond from our Station 3 to calls within our district. We have also recently placed a second Rescue vehicle in service which will be responding with new extrication equipment, high-angle and swift water rescue gear, Haz-Mat response supplies, and Air Cascade System. Our District is rapidly changing from a rural environment to one with an increasing number of residential neighborhoods and business/light industrial areas. Our Department will continue to move forward with changes to meet the demands of this growing community.
