About Country Club Hills Fire Protection District:
Country Club Hills Fire Department proudly protects 20000 people living in an area of 5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Country Club Hills Fire Protection District was formed, by a group of concerned citizens and dedicated volunteers, in 1957. This was a year before the city itself was incorporated. Since that time we have continued to grow, along with the community. With residents volunteering to become members of the new fire district, the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District provided space for training the new firefighters until the original firehouse was built on Patrick Avenue. The original firehouse still stands today and is used by the city as a storage facility. Well on its way now, the Fire District knew a larger station was needed. In 1967 the Fire District moved to its present site on 183rd Street. In 1973 the Fire District became the first department in Illinois, south of O’Hare Airport, to operate an Advanced Life Support paramedic unit. Country Club Hills continued to grow, and to keep up with the additional needs that accompany progress, the Fire District hired their first full-time firefighters in 1975. Today the District is a combination career and paid-on-call force that responds to nearly 1500 calls per year - quite a few more than the 50 or so calls we used to receive in the old days. The Country Club Hills Fire Protection District is an independent taxing body that is administered by a Board of Trustees who are elected by the voters. Although independent from the city, we have always enjoyed a close working relationship with the city. From small town to large suburb, 50 to 1500 calls, the same spirit of neighbor helping neighbor holds true today as it did in 1957. It is our mission to continue to provide the community with the high level of fire protection and emergency medical care they expect. On September 18, 2000 the Country Club Hills Fire Protection District ceased to exist. After many years of attempting to keep up with ever increasing costs, and the lack of additonal revenues, the fire district was dissolved taken and over by the City of Country Club Hills. We look forward to continuing to provide the highest level of service to our citizens and move forward to expand many other services.
