About Cohoes Fire Department:
Cohoes Fire Department proudly protects 17000 people living in an area of 4.3 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid status. The Cohoes Fire Department is a 37 member fully paid career department. Four nine men platoons under the command of a Captain work rotating twenty-four hour shifts with a Chief working eight hour days and being on call to respond to emergencies. The members of the Department staff three stations: a central fire station from which an engine and tower ladder company respond and two satelite stations which house single engine companies. Since the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers border the City, the Department responds to all water incidents with its own boat.
