About Golf Manor Fire Department:
Golf Manor Fire Department proudly protects 4154 people living in an area of .96 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Village of Golf Manor is one of the many smaller communities within Hamilton County, and lies on the north-east border of the City of Cincinnati. Incorporated as a village in 1953, this working-class community is primarily a residential area consisting of single family homes, multi-dwellings and a stretch along it's western edge zoned for light industrial. Fire and life safety services for the village are provided by the Golf Manor Fire Department. The GMFD was first organized as a private corporation in 1940 and offered protection to the then unincorporated area that is now Golf Manor. Before that time, fire protection was provided by the Cincinnati Fire Department. This however, changed quickly when the City of Cincinnati decided against an annexation of the area, leaving the area with very limited protection. Residents of the area, faced with the fact that they would soon be offered little in fire protection pulled together and helped to organize the Golf Manor Fire Department. Today, the GMFD still protects much of it's original territory; a total area of about 3 square miles. The department provides paramedic service to the neighboring community of Amberley Village. And, in 1995 , the GMFD entered into an automatic-aid aggreement with nearby City of Silverton Fire Department. Run volume for the GMFD has steadily been on the rise, with the department responding to just over 1000 incidents in 1997. The GMFD is commanded by Chief Gregg Ballman, a fire-service veteran of nearly 25 years. The chain of command is filled-out by one Asstistant Chief, two Captains and four Lieutenants. Remaining are fifteen firefighters and nine part-time paramedics. All personnel are cross trained as firefighter/EMT's or firefighter/paramedics. The GMFD operates a fleet of seven apparatus out of one station located on the west-side of Golf Manor. Dispatch operations are undertaken by the Golf Manor Comm Center located in the police department, adjacent to the firehouse. The GMFD is dispatched on the Valley Band and shares a dispatch frequency of 158.760 MHz with eight other area police & fire departments. Fireground operations can be heard on Valley Channel 2 at 158.865 MHz. The GMFD keeps sufficiently busy for an agency of its size, and is seeing more fire activity with the addition of the mutual aid agreement with the Silverton Fire Department. This coupled with the steady rise in EMS responses, challenges the department daily. Fortunately, the GMFD is blessed with a strong corps of members that proudly accepts any challenge set before them.
