About Cheviot Fire Department:
Cheviot Fire Department proudly protects 9616 people living in an area of 1.2 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Cheviot Fire Dept. was formed in 1912. Those were the days before motorized vehicles were common, so horse-drawn wagons were used. The fire dept. didn't have its own horse, so it borrowed one (Dynamite)from the local bakery. Since 1919 the fire station has been located at 3814 Harrison Ave. where the first pumper was housed. By the time Cheviot became a city in 1932, the fire dept. consisted of a chief, 2 full-time, and 20 volunteer firefighters. In 1951 the Jaycees raise money for the fire dept. to buy its first amubulance. Since then many improvements and changes have come about. More equipment, more runs per year, and more personnel have been added to get to where the fire dept. is today.
