About Carrollton FIRE DEPARTMENT:
CARROLLTON FIRE DEPARTMENT proudly protects 6400 people living in an area of 222 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The Carrollton Fire Department has enjoyed a colorful history beginning in 1849 with the establishment of the fire department in the orginal city charter. By 1880 the fire department consisted of three companies, two hand drawn hose carts and a hook and ladder wagon. In 1904 the city purchased its first team of fire horses named Joe and Charlie from the city of Brookfield to pull its fire wagon and hired its first full time driver named J.C. Warren. The team of horses and the wagon were then housed in city hall with the driver and his family living upstairs above city hall. Then in 1917, the city purchased its first motorized apparatus, a 50hp Kelly Springfield chemical truck. The department now consists of 5 pumpers, 1 ladder truck, 2 tankers, 3 brush buggies and 1 Command vehicle. It employs 4 full time men including the chief and 26 volunteers, housed in two stations. Station one in Carrollton and station two in Bosworth.
