About Belmar Fire Department Station 87-2:
Belmar Fire Department Station 87-2 proudly protects 8500 people living in an area of 1.0 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Belmar Fire Department consists of 3 companies, Station 87-1 (Union), Station 87-2 (Hook & Ladder), and Station 87-3 (Goodwill). Station 87-2 which houses the Ladder and Rescue Companies covers approximately 1 square mile of territory out of one fire station. Population fluctuates dramtically between seasons giving the Borough approximately 8500 people during the Winter months and upwards of 70,000 during the Summer. Coverage consists of mostly residental type structures and a commercial buisness district. Belmar has Three major throughfares State Highways 35 & 71 and Ocean Avenue. We also have a New Jersey Transit Commuter Rail Line which runs through the town. Belmar is also home to the largest Municipal owned Marina in New Jersey, which docks private and commercial owned vessels. The Borough itself is surrounded by water on three sides, The Atlantic Ocean to the east, Shark River inlet to the north and Shark River to the West.
