Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. Out of the Historic town of Bell Buckle we have a small volunteer department which consists of fire and medical reaches of emergency responces.We are home of Explorer post 560 through the Boy Scouts of america which consist of young firefighters from 14-21 years of age. We are paged out through Bedford County E-911 which also summons VFSI, BCEMS and BCSD to help our department with mutual aid. We run an average of 180 calls per year with an average responce time of 3 minutes. We average about 60% medical 40%Fire and Rescue. We protect the Bell Buckle community and surronding areas. In 1950, James Elkins was named the first Chief of Bell Buckle Volunteer Fire Department. He retired as chief in 1992 and Bill Bingham was then appointed to take his place. He served until April of 1998, when he left the position as chief. Mary Lokey was appointed in April of 1998 and served until August of 2005. Ronnie Lokey now leads the department of over 25 members.
