About Baird Volunteer Fire Department:
Baird Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 3000 people living in an area of 440 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Baird VFD provides fire, rescue and first responder EMS to the citizens of Baird and the surrounding area of Callahan County. We are responsible for rescue of entraped occupants of motor vehicle accidents for some 20 miles of Interstate 20 that run through our area. The main bulk of our calls is of the EMS variety, providing first responder care to our citizns while awaiting the arrival of the regional ambulance provider Citizens Emergency Medical Service stationed in Clyde,TX. Our next main call volume is of grass fires in the very rugged Texas mesquite country that surounds the area. We depend on donations from the area citizens for the bulk of our income and the City of Baird also has a set amount of money set aside each year in their budget to fund the fire protection for within the city limits of Baird.
