About Andrews Fire Department:
Andrews Fire Department proudly protects 2000 people living in an area of 3 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily commercial area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. On Sept-4-1906 The town board ordered that the chief of police also be the chief of the towns new fire dept.The new chief was J.N. Elliott On october-22-1917 The town board separated the police and fire dept.The first fire chief was W.A. Hyde asst chief J.B. Polk. On sept-10-1920 The town bought it's first fire truck a 1917 American Lafrance until this time the fire dept had several hand carts that members had to pull to the fire by hand. On feb-20-1926 The andrews fire dept bought it's first new fire truck a American Lafrance at a cost of $6,750.00 Then on march-20-1957 The fire dept bought a 1949 ford truck and made a pumper. This served the town until sept-15-1966 when the fire dept bought new a 1966 Luverne/International pumper for $10,418.60. This truck is still in service today. Then in 1986 the dept bought a E.E.I ford pumper then in 1998 a Pierce arrow custom pumper. Our newest purchase a 85ft Sutphen aerial platform.To be a member you must live in or within 1-mile of city limits. And must have in the first 3-years a minimum of certified N.C. Level-I firefighter and certified N.C. Medical Responder starting as of July 1 2001. We also trade patches we have about 170 in our collection from all over the U.S.
