We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a private department whose members are ALL volunteers. The Wissahickon Fire Company was founded in 1891 by a group of dedicated volunteers to protect Ambler Borough and the surrounding area from fire. Today the Company consists of 70+ active firefighters, all volunteers. These men and women continue to provide primary fire and rescue services to Ambler Borough and Lower Gwynedd Township, and are called by numerous other fire companies to assist when needed. Along with traditional fire response, Wissahickon prides itself in its specialty rescue capabilities, including Vehicle, High Angle, Trench, Confined Space, Collapse, and Water Rescue. The company also responds to hazardous materials responses, searches, and investigations, and is a member of the Eastern Montgomery County Large Diameter Hose Task Force.
