About Adel Volunteer Fire Department:
Adel Fire & Rescue Department proudly protects 3500 people living in an area of fifty square miles. We operate out of one stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. Adel is east of Des Moines (the capital of Iowa) aproximatley 15 miles. We have been serving the community since April of 1856. We are a volunteer department with 27 members (including honorary members). Most of our members are Fire Fighter I, we also have Fire Fighter IIs, Pump Operator and a Fire Instructor I. Our chief is Curtis Shaw who has just been newly elected. Our assistant chief is Nate Bandy, he too was just elected in January 2003. We also have a First Responder squad. We do not transport, and operate at a conditional EMT-B level. We have 3 paramedics on the squad, as well as several EMT-B's and First Responders. We cover 4 townships: Adel, Adams, Colfax and Washington, which encompasses aproximatley 50 square miles. We meet twice a month for business and training. All of our members are dedicated to saving life and property in the Adel area. We mutual with all of our surrounding towns.
